Dear Valued Customers,

Thank you for trusting and using the services at vHost during the past time.

According to information from the technical department, on the morning of September 18th, 2021, vHost recorded a network problem at the Singapore datacenter with the details as below:

  • Time of the first incident: From 7:34 to 7:42 on September 18, 2021
  • Time of the second incident: From 7:53 to 8:52 on September 18, 2021
  • Total downtime: 1 hour 7 minutes.
  • Cause of the problem: DDoS attack on IP connected to the network.
  • The radical remedy: Switch the connection from Public IP to Private IP.

Detailed crash reports:

- 7:55 AM: vHost recorded a total service interruption.
- 8:15 AM: vHost detects that the IP connection between vHost's router and the partner's router cannot ping each other.
- 8:28 AM: vHost's engineer discovered that the system was under DDoS attack directly on the IP connected to the partner. We cannot immediately disconnect this IP as the entire service will be affected. After working with partners, they confirmed that vHost's system was attacked with extremely high intensity. Therefore, the partner has converted the connecting IP from Public IP to Private IP. The change needs to be configured from two parties (including partners and vHost).

- 8:49 AM: vHost contacted the partner to inform that the system configuration is complete but the network is still not up

- 8:51 AM: The partner informed that their protection ACL system needs time to update the new configuration

- 8:52 am: vHost recognizes the network system was up and can fully access it again.

In the past 3 months, vHost has signed a contract and completed the deployment of an additional network system with Cogent to be able to coordinate traffic through the backup link when needed. However, over time of using and surveying customers' opinions, vHost found that the transmission from Cogent was not appreciated and canceled this backup line cooperation. Currently, vHost is planning to cooperate and deploy a backup line with another ISP to vHost's system. We will make a specific announcement as soon as this plan is fully implemented.

Once again, vHost sincerely apologizes to customers for the recent incident and would like to inform customers to monitor the situation.
